Job Security
In this month's issue of Consumer Reports they rate different condoms based on strength and reliability.
Interestingly enough the condoms distributed by Planned Parenthood (PP) finished 22nd and 23rd out of 23. Consumer Reports found that both of the condoms performed well below the field in strength, the main indication of the chance of breakage.
It is unlikely that PP is deliberately distribution defective condoms, being as the condoms are free, but it is quite interesting that they (the main abortion provider in the US) has the most to gain by the condoms failing. The fact that PP is passing these out to prevent abortions, is like putting the Marlboro Man in charge of helping people quit smoking.
Other condoms rate quite well. They are not free though. This is also beneficial to PP. It is typically poor or young women and men that are showing up at planned parenthood requesting these free, inferior condoms. The same demographic is highly likely if faced with an unexpected pregnancy to return to PP for advice on the pregnancy. Do you think they may have a sincere suggestion for them?
Consequently, PP did have their third condom test do much better than the other two (14th out of 23), although still in the lower half. The condom is called the Lollipop. I wonder what demographic they are targeting with this one.
(Hat tip: Cass for pointing this out)
